Google Alerts allow you to add a search term and they will email you as soon as the googlebot finds a reference to it. I have been using Google Alerts for over 2 years. I was told about it by a friend and since then have added dozens of search terms following every move those terms have made.
Basically Google added this service to allow users to get the latest information on a search term they have made an alert for. For example you may want to know when Google finds the latest information on the Sony DX2 Digital cameras. Googlebot during it roaming of the internet will email you with it’s results of any new information on the Sony DX2 Digital camera. Fanastic isnt it?
Well as a website owner, how will this help you? Well, the greatest thing about Google Alerts is you can add any search term. Anything at all! Why not add your website url and have Google tell you each time they find a new instance of your website? In my case I made an alert for http://www.webseo.com.au and asked Google to notify me each time they found new instances of that search term.
Google sends me daily emails giving me details of places they found my url being mentioned. Like this morning I had an alert on my Wordpress Profits website and Google told me they found amention of it on Programing Talk Forum. I think you get what i mean.
To get an alert and you can have as may as you like, head on over to here Google Alerts and make up an alert. Each time you make a new site or add a page, make an alert on it. It’s a fantastic resource and one I use every day.
