We often hear the phrase “the money is in the list”. Even though it is certainly true, why is it so?
Every successful internet marketer will praise the fact that they have made their fortunes by building a modest email list, with members gathered by all means of systems and techniques. But, why are these email lists so profitable.
Well from a person who is trying to build a qualiyty list of keen members, hungry for information on website promotion and internet marketing, I thought I would be the best person to answer this question.
The money is in the list because, I said so! Nah I’m kidding. Email lists are collections of names and email addresses of people who have found the information you have provided helpful and in joining your list are gauranteed to keep getting that quality information by being notified by email.
They don’t want to have to bookmark your site to come back at a later date and browse through the information you provide in more detail. No, they want to be alerted by email so they don’t have to keep going back to your site and find it themselves. People are basically lazy and if someone they trust is willing to send them via email the latest and greatest information and offers, even better.
So how can you make money from these people? Subscribers on your email list have decided by filling that subscription form that they trust what you have to say. Why else would they have given you their name and email address. Spam is a major problem to them and they don’t want to give their details to just anyone. So they have shown you, they trust you.
Never ever break that trust. Don’t send your list spammy emails trying to sell them something just to make a quick buck. That quick buck will cost you their trust. Only try to sell them something when you have something you believe will help them achieve their online goals.
With a quality list of people who trust what you say, you must build a relationship with them. Give them what they want and then a bit more. You really have to want to help them achieve what ever it is their online goals are. Take a personal interest in your group. Make your relationship with your whole list as personal as you can make it. Because, the one thing you have to remember is that by giving, they will give back many times over.
Once you have developed a list of names and email addresses and developed a personal relationship with them, now is the time you can start to introduce products and services to them, that you believe will help them achieve their online goals.
Most of the so called gurus will tell you to start selling right from the start. Find some product on Clickbank that has a great affiliate commission an even better sales page and start flogging it to your list. They play the numbers game by getting as many subscribers as possible and sell, sell, sell. If they get heaps of people unsubscribing it doesn’t matter as they just get more fresh subscribers.
I don’t like the numbers game. I would prefer to look after the subscribers I have and give them more than they expect. I get less people unsubscribing and it builds the trust my list has with me. So when i do promote a product or service to them, they know I truly believe in it.
So there you are, the money is in the list. Build a list of like minded people, give them more than they expect and take a personal interest in their needs and experiences. Do all that and they will buy what ever your promoting. By helping them they are helping you get rich.
